Laura Joseph is a board member of the Licking County League of Women Voters, and serves as a volunteer for the Fair Districts Speakers Bureau to inform the public about redistricting in Ohio.

Every ten years, based on the results of the US Census, Ohio legislators re-draw the maps for US Congressional Districts, as well as for Ohio House and Senate districts, making adjustments to distribute population evenly.  Laura will describe the process currently taking place, and in particular how redistricting reforms passed by Ohioans in 2015 and 2018 stand to reduce gerrymandering, restore representational fairness, and increase voters' influence on candidates.  She will also share what actions Ohio residents are taking to influence how their communities are represented in the new maps and to keep legislators accountable.

The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization, encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
